PROJECTS
The Bara mosque was being constructed under the auspices of the Director and has been going on for the last 1 ½ months. It is now complete and has been handed over to the community on 29/03/2007.

WARDEN DEPARTMENT
NEW STAFF
INTRODUCTION: This is a monthly newsletter of the Garissa Muslim Children’s Home also referred to Dar-al-Aytam in short (Dar) in Arabic. The center was established in 1969 by the Young Muslim Association to provide care and protection to orphans and destitute children. Other than the orphans, the center has offered education to hundreds of children through its constituent institutions such as the nursery school, primary school, madrasa and high school. Services offered to the community include, Da’wah, Iftar, Qurbani, peace and reconciliation, water, mosques, advocacy and networking.The Department got a new member of staff (Assistant Warden) Mr. Ahmed Kidaki. Mr. Ahmed worked with the centre between 1992 -1995 in the same capacity. When he left voluntarily. He replaces Mr. Yakub Buthul who also left voluntarily as an Assistant Warden and Housemaster. We wish to welcome Mr. Kidaki and wish him success.
ADMISSION OF ORPHANS
We received a total of 83 applications. Due to scarcity of space, admission was offered to 25 as follows:
Garissa 14
Wajir 3
Mandera 2
The Director also admitted 6 orphans to bring the total admission to 25 orphans
RECEIPTS AND ISSUES
The receipts and issues include various stationary items and the following clothes:
1. Plastic open shoes @ 150/- = 51,000/-
2. school uniforms – costed about Ksh.200,000/-
The open plastic shoes were donated by the M.D. – Medina Chemicals – Garissa.
STAFF ISSUES

RESIGNATION OF THE ACCOUNTANT
The former Accountant Br. Feisal Karisa resigned in February and was replaced by Br. Aden Harun – an Old Boy as a trainee accounts officer.
NEW BOREHOLE
THE MINISTRY OF WATER – has kindly agreed to sink and equip a borehole for the centre. This was in response to an appeal by the Secretary General –YMA. With this borehole operational, we hope water shortage will be a thing of the past. We would like to thank the GOK for this kind gesture towards the orphans.
GMCH REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE
The following repair/rehabilitation works were undertaken:
· the upgrading of the Municipal water supply system at the centre costing Ksh.28,000/-.
· 5 toilets have been rehabilitated near the dormitories in order to help the children to use the toilets at night.
· The repair of the centre guest house was completed in 12/4/2007
· Construction of 2 toilets for Tahfeedh adjacent to the dispensary
· Repair of the farm main road which was destroyed by the floods - from 8/4/2007 – 14/4/2007.
Also the farm canals were repaired.
