MONTHLY DAR NEWSLETTER VOL.2 ISSUE 8 AUGUST 2006/1426

SALUTATIONS
Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

INTRODUCTION

This is a monthly newsletter of the Garissa Muslim Children’s Home also referred to Dar-al-Aytam in short (Dar) in Arabic. The center was established in 1969 by the Young Muslim Association to provide care and protection to orphans and destitute children. Other than the orphans, the center has offered education to hundreds of children through its constituent institutions such as the nursery school, primary school, madrasa and high school. Services offered to the community include, Da’wah, Iftar, Qurbani, peace and reconciliation, water, mosques, advocacy and networking.

THE MADARASA

Sira and Quran competition

This is an annual event that targets Madarasas within Garissa District. It was held in GMCH on 13th and 15th July 2006, there were 54 participants from six different Madrasas that have participated including the GMCH madrasa. A total of Ksh.56,000/- was spent in the whole function in giving prizes to winners and other activities. This amount was contributed by the Old boys and the public –May Allah (SWT) reward their efforts.

DUKSI PROJECT
Due to the increased number of students having the eager to memorize the Holy Quran the center commenced a special 30’x 40’ specious building for the Duksi. Previously the students were using one of the Staff houses. We thank the donors of the project specifically Sheikh Mohamed Ali of Caltex-Garissa, Bro.Abdulqadir Hussein and Bro.Abdulrahman Zaila'e for their support in seeing the project is complete.

POWER RECONNECTION TO THE FARM
Electricity that was used to run motors both in farm and the center use, collapsed during the El-Nino of 1997/98. KPLC put back the line in 2001 but failed to put up the meter claiming that there was an outstanding bill of 401,480/- on that account. Appeals to the Government to get waiver failed and due to the demand for sufficient water for both domestic use and irrigation, the Association was forced to raise the said amount. The Association appeals to Well-wishers to help it raise this amount in order to guarantee reliable water for the Farm and the Center.

YOUNG MUSLIM HIGH SCHOOL
