Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
INTRODUCTION
This is a monthly newsletter of the Garissa Muslim Children’s Home also referred to Dar-al-Aytam in short (Dar) in Arabic. The center was established in 1969 by the Young Muslim Association to provide care and protection to orphans and destitute children. Other than the orphans, the center has offered education to hundreds of children through its constituent institutions such as the nursery school, primary school, madrasa and high school. Services offered to the community include, Da’wah, Iftar, Qurbani, peace and reconciliation, water, mosques, advocacy and networking.KCPE
This year we had 124 candidates among them 18 were centre children. The best boy this year was AbdiNoor Dekow with 393 marks and the best girl was Fatuma Hussein with 397 marks. 7 students managed to be admitted to National schools. The school was position one among the public schools in the District and in the North Eastern Province. Inclusive of other private schools, our school was No. 7 in the Province. Our mean grade was 284 up from 265 in 2005.
GMCH REPAIR
In December when the children were away on holiday, a number of repair work was done at the centre. Among the important areas was the GMCH kitchen and ablution area. There was also clearing of trees and bushes in the compound, sweeping of the GMCH compound. In preparation of the return of the children, there was washing of the blankets, nets and other clothes for the children. There was further repair of sewage chambers at the primary and the centre, repair of the water pipe system of the ablution block, bathroom and toilets, the primary toilets and repair of the sewage system at the Secondary school. The main centre sewage was also cleared.
At the primary school there was planting of flowers, fixing of resting seats, renovation of the waiting area at the school administration block and painting of some of the classes.
WATER COOLER
We installed two water coolers for the GMCH children at the Dinning hall. The two water coolers were bought by a well wisher through the Director- Sheikh Moti-ur-Rasool Alvi This has enabled the orphans quench their thirst during the hot season. May Allah reward the donor.

NEW ACADEMIC YEAR
The centre children reported after the holiday in the 1st week of January. The YMPS and YMHS re-opened on 8th January to start 2007 academic year. All began well by Allah’s grace. Our schools had the opportunity of admitting class one and Nursery pupils. The demand for chances was overwhelming due to the popularity of the school, we look forward to initiating additional streams in our schools in future.
VISITORS FROM NAIROBI
On 12th and 13th January, 2007, Br. Saber Gul Aga, Br. Ayub Khalid and Br. Munir Diwan visited the centre. They distributed ration to the flood victims of Bakuyu and Ziwani. They also got the chance to interact with the orphans. They further addressed the YMHS form four students.
