SALUTATIONS
Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
INTRODUCTION
This is a monthly newsletter of the Garissa Muslim Children’s Home also referred to Dar-al-Aytam in short (Dar) in Arabic. The center was established in 1969 by the Young Muslim Association to provide care and protection to orphans and destitute children. Other than the orphans, the center has offered education to hundreds of children through its constituent institutions such as the nursery school, primary school, madrasa and high school. Services offered to the community include, Da’wah, Iftar, Qurbani, peace and reconciliation, water, mosques, advocacy and networking.
THE OPENING CEREMONY OF TAHFEEZ PROJECT
As was indicated in our June newsletter the center was able to set up a Tahfidh project of which will cater for students who are to memorize the Holy Quran.During the opening ceremony of the Tahfeez Project which was held on 17th July 2006, a number of prominent people attended the ceremony i.e.
· Bro.Mohamad Afzal Khan who is the main donor of the project and was accompanied by his Family members and other guests from Pakistan and Nairobi respectively.
· Sheikh Moti-ul-Rasool who is the Director GMCH
· Hon Hussein Maalim who is the area MP.
· Maalim Said Warsame from Mikono International
· Bro.Abdisirat of Provincial Education office.
· Sheikh Ali Gure from the Welfare Society.
Immediately after the opening ceremony the boys who were very eager in getting such a chance since they were using the mosque as their classroom before began their Quranic memorization lessons in the new building located next to the mosque.
GMCH RATION STORE-RECEIPT OF FOODSTUFFS
We acknowledge the receipt of the under mentioned foodstuffs from G.O.K Red Cross society in good order as follows:-
§ Rice 240kgs
§ Sugar 250kgs
§ Salt 48kgs
§ Dates 35kgs
§ White beans 300kgs
§ Coking oil 74 lts
§ M/Whole 250kgs
§ Uji mix 200kgs
§ Pasta mkoroni 100 Pkts
§ Milk powder 81 kgs
WARDEN’S DEPARTMENT
CLEANLINESS COMPETITION
There was an Inter-house competition in general cleanliness. This is a continuous exercise to be conducted on all Saturdays. The best Dormitory was Darul-Salaam house in the second leg. They were awarded several prices including a certificate and a trip to the Young Muslim Association Farm where the students spent the whole evening; the ceremony was graced by the Director GMCH Sheikh-mot-ul Rasool.
YOUNG MUSLIM HIGH SCHOOL
This year the school is presenting 26 candidates for the K.C.S.E National Examinations for the first time. It is our sincere hope and expectation that it will excel and be a turning point in the education in North Eastern Province.

HUSSEIN TAWANE DABAR-F/NO.1149
Date of Admission: 17/12/2002 Age on Admission: 9 years.
Class on Admission: Tahfezez
Present Age: 13 years. Present Class: Std 4
Outstanding Qualities
Academic: Outstanding in both Islamic and Secular studies. Memorized the holy Quran at the age of 12 years (2005).
He joined the school directly from Tahfeez class and become Numbers four (4) and one (1) respectively
Discipline: Well disciplined young boy. Always looks clean and composed.
