SALUTATIONS
Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
INTRODUCTION
This is a monthly newsletter of the Garissa Muslim Children’s Home also referred to Dar-al-Aytam in short (Dar) in Arabic. The center was established in 1969 by the Young Muslim Association to provide care and protection to orphans and destitute children. Other than the orphans, the center has offered education to hundreds of children through its constituent institutions such as the nursery school, primary school, madrasa and high school. Services offered to the community include, Da’wah, Iftar, Qurbani, peace and reconciliation, water, mosques, advocacy and networking.
YOUNG MUSLIM HIGH SCHOOL – KCSE MOCK RESULTS
Our high school (YMHS) was the best in the mock examinations (2006) in Garissa District. This is the first KCSE class of the school.
The candidates were 26 and the school mean grade was B- (7.69). We look forward for best in the final exams, InshaAllah.
The prize giving day (Hafla)
On 16th September, there was a colourful Prize giving day (Hafla) for the GMCH madrasa. The guest of honour on this occasion was the Mayor of Garissa Br. Siyat Osman. Another guest was Br. Mohammed Gabow (The Area Councilor)
The Climax of the hafla was the graduation of four Tahfeedh boys who successfully completed the memorization of the Holy Qur’an. The boys are:

Visit to the NEP PC
The Director and The Manager paid a courtesy call to the PC – NEP Mr. Kiritu Wamae on 4th September, 2006.
They held fruitful discussions whereby the Director briefed to the PC the activities of the Association in the North Eastern Province.
The PC appreciated the contribution of the Association and its care towards the vulnerable children and education.
Ramadhan Fund raising appeal
As a tradition, the Association used to approach the well wisher to offer donations to its programmes during Ramadhan. This year the programme has been more intensified particularly with a special appeal to the Somali community spear headed by Br. Abdisalam. In order to fill the huge budget short fall for the coming year 2007. Ramadhan started on 24th and Iftar is being provided at the GMCH mosque courtesy of sponsorship by Br. M.A. Khan.
Youth initiative
The center was visited by a group of youth led by Son of the Director
Mohammad Alvi and included Bilal Gul Aga and Maulana Ismail Gul Mohammad. Their visit concerned finding out ways and means of
collaborating with the center and also extending a helping hand to the communities around Madogo Division of Tana River District. They visited 4 villages and distributed food. They also left behind Ksh.270,000/- to be distributed as Ramadhan Iftar Relief to five of these villages targeting a total of 100 families (Poor). They also intend to initiate income generating projects for these communities.
YOUNG MUSLIM FARM
The farm foreman Mr. Mahmud Garad represented the YMA at the Garissa 2006 Show whereby the Young Muslim Farm received a trophy for the best bull. The farm foreman received certificates from the Agricultural Society of Kenya as follows:-
1st Prize - 10 certificates Ksh.200/-
2nd Prize - 8 certificates Ksh.150/-
3rd Prize - 6 certificates Ksh.100/-

Present Age: 16 years Present Class: 7 School and madrasa.
Qualities:
He was among top 3 students in his class constantly. Also position one in madrasa last term. He has memorized the Holy Qur’an. Ahmed is humble, bright and disciplined.
